Jazz in July feat. Steve Houghton and the AHA! Quintet
This musical reunion features high-powered horn artistry and a propulsive rhythm section. The AHA! Quintet combines the musicianship of Steve Houghton's old friends Bob Sheppard and Clay Jenkins with his current trio partners Steve Allee and Jeremy Allen. Energetic and fresh, this adventurous quintet delivers melodies that stylistically include swing, Brazilian, fusion, and ballads. Their musical chemistry and deep friendships come through loud and clear.
All concerts are free and open to the public, but seating is limited, so everyone is encouraged to come early. Concerts are held outside on the museum's front plaza and, in the event of rain, will be moved inside the IU Art Museum. Refreshments and food will be available for purchase. Donations are appreciated.
Cool off in the Special Exhibitions Gallery on the first floor of the museum from 5:30–8:30 p.m. each Jazz in July evening. A special pre-concert gallery tour on Friday, July 25 from 5:45–6:15 p.m. will be offered by Nan Brewer, the Lucienne M. Glaubinger Curator of Works on Paper, on the circus imagery in Henri Matisse’s Jazz.
