Darwin Day

The Indiana University Northwest Anthropology Club will celebrate the 205th birthday of famed evolutionary theorist Charles Darwin, and the 155th anniversary of the publication of his seminal work, On the Origin of Species, during its 17th Annual Darwin Day program from 12 to 2 p.m., Wednesday, March 26 in the Library Conference Center, room 105ABC.

The campus and community are invited to the free event, which features presentations by four IU Northwest faculty members on topics in science, humanities, evolution, and Darwin. Cake and coffee will be served.

The speakers will each speak for 20 minutes, with a few minutes reserved for questions between talks. The day’s lineup is as follows:

12 p.m. - Bob Mucci, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Anthropology
Introduction and Dedication

12:10 p.m. -  David Parnell, Ph.D.,  Assistant Professor of History
"Identity and Diversity in the Ancient World"

12:35 p.m. - Cutting of Darwin’s Birthday Cake

12:55 p.m. - Mary Ann Fischer, Ph.D.,  Associate Professor of Psychology
"Are Infants Naturally Good?"

1:20 p.m. - Gianluca Di Muzio, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Philosophy
“God, Meaning, and Morality"

1:45 p.m. - Rebecca Van Sessen, MS, Adjunct Faculty in Anthropology
“Teeth and Diet: Microwear and Morphology in Humans and Other Primates”

The Anthropology Club will be selling Darwin fish emblems, Anthropology Club and Darwin T-shirts, Anthropology Club tote bags, and primate Beanie Babies.
