"The unfolding story of rising CO2 and life in the greenhouse"

Abstract:  As a result of the burning of fossil-fuels, atmospheric CO2 has continued its relentless rise, recently reaching the 400 ppm milestone which is well above the natural level of 280 ppm.  CO2 will almost certainly top 450 ppm in the next few decades, and rise to 500 ppm or more unless steps are taken to reduce fossil fuel usage.  We are really only beginning to grasp the broad implications of rising greenhouse gases for climate and natural systems.  We already see evidence that major changes have occurred in the operation of land ecosystems, and even greater changes are surely yet to come.
