Call for Proposals for Distance Education Course Development
The Center for Distance Education (CDE) is inviting faculty to submit proposals to transform an existing face-to-face/on-campus course to either a fully online or hybrid/blended course. Please drop-off your completed and signed applications any time before and through Friday, March 7th, at 5 pm to Cathy Dale at NS 244.
To learn more about what developing courses for online delivery entails & to find out about CDE history and initiatives, join us for one of our Distance Education Overview sessions, all held in Northside 245:
- Monday, January 27th, 3-4 pm
- Tuesday, January 28th 3-4 pm
- Wednesday, February 5th, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm
- Thursday, February 6th, 11:30 am - 12:30 pm.
Since the fall of 2007, the CDE has funded faculty to transform 119 existing on-campus/face-to-face courses into either fully online or hybrid/blended courses. The CDE course development committee reviews each proposal for approval. No other review of course transformation from an existing on-campus course to an online course is required for course development funding.
The CDE receives many student inquiries about online course offerings at IU South Bend. They will only increase with the recent IU Office of Online Education's initiatives. Thus, to retain students at IU South Bend, we need to offer more online courses. If you or your colleagues would like to know more about how to transform an existing course to fully online or hybrid/blended, please do not hesitate to contact Dr. Marianne Castano Bishop (email@example.com or x4543) who will be more than happy to work with you.
Faculty stipends for fully online course development are:
- $4,000 for a 3-credit (or more) course
- $3,000 for a 2-credit course
- $2,000 for a 1-credit course
Hybrid/blended course development funding is 50% of fully online courses.
