Publish Your First Book: Ask the Experts
In celebration of University Press Week November 10–16, Indiana University Press will host various educational academic publishing events. The primary event of the week, “Publish Your First Book: Ask the Experts,” will take place November 14 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. in room E174 of the Herman B Wells Library. This panel discussion will offer the viewpoints of university industry professionals and authors, including an overview of the publishing process, writing a book proposal, choosing the right publisher for your field, and publicizing your book. A question and answer session will follow.
Panelists include Dee Mortensen, Senior Sponsoring Editor at IU Press; Dave Hulsey, Sales and Marketing Director at IU Press; Patrick O’Meara, Special Advisor to the President at Indiana University, Vice President Emeritus for International Affairs, and Professor of Public and Environmental Affairs and Political Science; and Greg Waller, Professor of Film and Media Studies and former Chair of the Department of Communication and Culture. Carolyn Walters, Executive Director of the Office of Scholarly Publishing, will moderate the panel.
The event and is free and open to the public with light refreshments provided. Please register by November 7 at iupress.eventbrite.com.
To supplement the panel discussion, staff members from IU Press will be available by appointment from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on November 13 and November 15 at the Wells Library to answer individual questions about book publishing and promotion. To schedule a time slot, email firstname.lastname@example.org with your availability and the topic(s) you would like to discuss. Consultations are open to anyone on campus with an interest in academic publishing.
