MasMedia 7, an independent production company, is proud to announce its production of "Fences," a play by August Wilson.
Winner of the 1987 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and 2010 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Play – 2010, this sensational drama originally starred James Earl Jones as Troy Maxson, a former star of the Negro baseball leagues who now works as a garbage man in 1957 Pittsburgh. Excluded as a black man from the major leagues during his prime, Troy's bitterness takes its toll on his relationships with his wife and his son, who now wants his own chance to play ball. Revived in 2010 starring Denzel Washington in the lead role.
The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., January 16, 17 and 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31 and February 1 at 7:30 p.m. and January 19, 26, and February 2 at 2:30 p.m.at Theatre Northwest on Grant, 3660 Grant St., located one mile west of the Indiana University Northwest campus at 37th Avenue and Grant Street. Theatre Northwest is the performance company of the IU Northwest Department of Performing Arts.
The one-hour play is directed by Mark Spencer, IU Northwest Visiting Professor of Theatre. Spencer, of Gary, graduated from IU Northwest in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre. MasMedia 7 is his independent production company.
