'Driving Miss Daisy' at Theatre Northwest

MasMedia 7, an independent production company, is proud to announce its production of “Driving Miss Daisy,” a play by Alfred Uhry.

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., September 12, 13 and 14 and at 2:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 15 at Theatre Northwest on Grant, 3660 Grant St., located one mile west of the Indiana University Northwest campus at 37th Avenue and Grant Street. Theatre Northwest is the performance company of the IU Northwest Department of Performing Arts.

The one-hour play is directed by Mark Spencer, IU Northwest Visiting Professor of Theatre. Spencer, of Gary, graduated from IU Northwest in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in Theatre. MasMedia 7 is his independent production company.

Winner of the 1988 Pulitzer Prize and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Play, Driving Miss Daisy is a warm-hearted, humorous and affecting study of the unlikely relationship between an aging, grumpy white Southern lady, and a proud, soft-spoken black man. Driving Miss Daisy, the Academy Award-winning film starring Morgan Freeman (Hoke Colburn) and Jessica Tandy (Miss Daisy), is based on this one-act play. 

The cast includes: Darryl Crockett as Hoke Colburn; Jennifer Mead as Daisy Werthan; and Bill Bodner as Boolie Werthan. Set design is by Kathy Arfken, IU Northwest Associate Professor of Theatre.
