Shakespeare's KING LEAR presented by Gary Shakespeare Company

Gary Shakespeare Company, a new non-profit theatre company, is proud to announce its inaugural production of Shakespeare’s “King Lear.”

The show is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., August 16, 17, 23 and 24, and 2:30 p.m., Sundays, Aug. 18 and 25 at Theatre Northwest on Grant, 3660 Grant St., located one mile west of the main campus at 37th Avenue and Grant Street. Theater Northwest is the performance company of the Indiana University Northwest Department of Performing Arts,

Directed by founder Norman Caplan, the play boasts a cast of more than 20 professionals, semi-professionals, community theatre stalwarts and student actors.

King Lear tells the story of a king of ancient Britain who decides to divide his wealth, land and power amongst his three daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia. The two eldest profess their love for their father, while the youngest will say nothing to appease him. "Old gold" gives way to "new silver" as formidable family patterns play out on the battlefields of the heath and in the hovels of the mind. Raging, unraveling forces factor in, leading to ultimate distress, destruction, madness and murder.

The cast includes IU Northwest students Robyn Rutar of Valparaiso and Mario Dongu of Hammond, and IU Northwest faculty member, Mark Baer, of Crown Point.

Tickets are $10, or pay what you can. Admission is free to students with a valid student ID.

Reservations are accepted and are highly recommended by calling (219) 980-6808 or visiting www.iun.edu/theatre.
