African Drumming & Dance Concert

Please join us for the Fall 2012 final concert of Bernard Woma’s F301/F609 Ghanaian Music, Drumming, and Dance course. The students will be performing Damba, Kpatsa, Gyil pieces, Mambo, Gota, Gyil, Gahu, and Kpanlogo!

Bernard Woma is a true cultural treasure from Ghana who has toured the world as xylophonist and lead drummer of the National Dance Company of Ghana. He has shared the performance stage with renowned artists such as Maya Angelou, Yo Yo Ma, and Glen Velez. He has performed for international dignitaries and presidents such as U. S. president Bill Clinton, Nelson Mandela and Queen Elizabeth II. He is a graduate student in African Studies.

Joyce Bekyore is an internationally well-known dancer and teacher.  She has toured the world with the Saakumu Dance Troupe for over 10 years as a senior performer and artist.  She is a participating member of the three times award winning Saakumu Dance Troupe at many national music and dance festivals in Ghana.  Evelyn Yaa has worked with international contemporary dance choreographers, such as Iris Rosa, Julie Penz, Shani Henderson and many others in America at the Dagara Music Center.
