Barry Gealt: Embracing Nature

Barry Gealt: Embracing Nature

On view October 6–December 23, 2012

“I have an idea of place when I begin. A painting can’t be a piece of something. You’re painting a place, not a piece of a place. It’s important to make the painting so you’re at that place.” —Barry Gealt, 2012

Thirty-two vibrant oil paintings, representing nearly three decades of work, illuminate this esteemed artist’s vision of the landscape in the special exhibition, Barry Gealt: Embracing Nature. Gealt retired from IU’s Hope School of Fine Arts in 2007 after a teaching career that spanned almost forty years; he continues to paint and exhibit his work both in the U.S. and abroad. Many of the paintings in the show are being exhibited for the first time in Bloomington.
