Esai Morales Talk and Showing of “Gun Hill Road”
Indiana University welcomes actor/activist Esai Morales as a special guest to this year’s celebration of National Hispanic Heritage Month. A graduate of New York's High School for the Performing Arts, Morales made his film debut in Bad Boys opposite Sean Penn in 1983. After nearly 30 years, Morales has enjoyed a diverse acting career that has played out in films (Bad Boys, La Bamba, My Family) television (NYPD Blue, Resurrection Blvd, Caprica) and the Internet (Los Americanos.) Esai Morales is also a co-founder, with Sonia Braga and Jimmy Smits, of the National Hispanic Foundation for the Arts. Morales will be joining us to talk about his career especially his latest work in the critically acclaimed film, Gun Hill Road. Esai Morales, who also executive produced Gun Hill Road, stars as Enrique who returns home to the Bronx after three years in prison to find the world he knew has changed. His wife, Angela (Judy Reyes), struggles to hide an emotional affair, and his teenage son Michael (introducing newcomer Harmony Santana), explores a sexual transformation well beyond Enrique's grasp and understanding. Showing of Gun Hill Road will follow talk by Esai Morales.
