Latin American Ensemble: Sarah Cranor, Director
Violinist Sarah Cranor leads the Latin American Ensemble in an exploration of Baroque music from Latin America on period instruments. This concert includes a variety of sacred and secular works by composers such as Pinto, Cascante, López Capillas, as well as a handful of pieces by anonymous composers. Among these pieces are Pinto's Te Deum, a harmonically spectacular work from the late Baroque/early Classical period in Brazil, featuring solo horn and virtuosic violin writing and vocal lines. The concert ends with a rare performance of Opera San Francisco Xavier, a mid-eighteenth-century opera "Edificante" by an anonymous Bolivian indigenous composer, sung and narrated in Chiquitano.
