Handmade Books Workshop

This is the second in a series of four events sponsored by the Education Library in celebration of World Book Day.

Learn how to make books appropriate for classroom teaching using only paper, thread, and a few hand tools. We will sew three different blank books: a single-signature pamphlet, a two-signature pamphlet, and a 5-signature long-stitch book. These structures can be modified or embellished in endless ways once you know the basic method of construction, and are based on centuries-old methods of bookbinding! Learn about the early history of the codex, or book, through additional materials that will be provided.
