Bender Lecture: Steve Squyres, Roving Mars: Spirit, Opportunity, and the Exploration of the Red Planet"

Steve Squyres is the James A. Weeks Professor of Physical Sciences at Cornell and the Lead Investigator for the Mars Exploration Rover Mission (the one we hear about on TV all the time). One of the world's leading experts on the red planet, he is also the author of Roving Mars, which Disney turned into an IMAX film of the same name. Professor Squyres has has worked with NASA on several other planetary explorations, including voyages to Jupiter and Saturn. In 2011, he served as a NASA “aquanaut" by conducting over 24 continuous hours of underwater exploration, for which he was named “Person of the Week” by ABC News. Professor Squyres has won countless awards, including the prestigious Carl Sagan Memorial Award, and has been a featured guest on a number of national television programs, such as 60 Minutes and The Colbert Report.
