Here at IUS you can make a difference in the lives of so many people : WOW !
Craftswoman Lucia Valdez, of Chile, is a good example of how the program has changed lives. Thirty years ago Valdez began to mold clay into useful artistic pieces. She dug clay and learned to form it into salsa dishes, piggy banks, and other shapes. With the help of Ten Thousand Villages and events similar to the one to be held at IU Southeast, Valdez was able to earn a living and support her family. Today, Valdez’s oldest son helps out in her workshop. “My work has provided an income for my family and allowed me to work with dignity,” she said. “I feel as if I am more respected now, since I have my own business.”
