Join in this traditional bell ringing ceremony to honor veterans, sponsored by the Student Veterans Organization. Armistice Day, became an official holiday on November 11th in 1938. The actual fighting in WWI between the Allies and Germany ended seven months earlier than the signing of the Treaty of Versailles with the armistice. It went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918. It was marked by the ringing of church bells 11 times and 11 rounds of artillery were fired. November 11th became Veterans Days in 1954.
